A headache or a migraine is one of the usual health issues that most people have been experiencing. This health condition is triggered by various factors such as stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep trouble.
Most of the time, headaches subside by taking medications without a doctor’s prescription like ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen. But, taking these drugs frequently may cause serious adverse effects to your health. Thus, the best thing to do is to relieve the symptoms before the condition aggravates.
Instead of taking prescription drugs to relieve a headache, you should consider the alternative, natural, and safer way through acupressure. This therapy originated in China and was developed 5,000 years ago.
The principles applied in acupressure is the same as with acupuncture that promotes wellness and relaxation. It utilizes the finger to apply pressure over particular points of the body. The pressure points lie along the meridians of the body or the channels of energy. If the meridians are out of balance, a person may experience some pain.
Through acupressure, the meridians are unblocking by employing gentle yet firm pressure on the acupoints. Once the acupoints are stimulated, the brain starts to release endorphins that steer away from the pain. As tension and pains recede, your body regains its balance.
Here are the common Acupressure points:
Sinus

Look for the “drilling bamboo” points that are situated between the ridge of the eyebrows and the bridge of the nose. While pressing the acupoint, gently massage that portion for a minute to mitigate a headache due to eyestrain.
Migraine

Using your thumb, apply pressure on the mid part of your eyebrows for 1 minute. The pressure will alleviate the condition and gives a better result.

For neck pain, you can simply apply pressure at the middle portion of the back of the neck. While applying pressure, massage gently for two minutes. This is the best way to relieve eyestrain, ear pain, nosebleed, sore throat, and dizziness.

The pain can be relieved by pressing the tip of the eyebrows for five seconds using the middle and index finger.

If you experience a tension headache, the acupoint to find is the “union valley”. It is located below the crease between your palm and thumb. Apply pressure on it for five seconds and do the same with the other hand. The next thing to do is to massage your shoulders gently for a minute. This acupressure technique will alleviate the pain caused by shoulder pain, neck pain, constipation, and toothache.
