To become a licensed pharmacist you must pass first the licensure examination. In the Philippines, the examination is administered by the PRC and the Professional Regulatory Board of Pharmacy. You can read below post for more pharmacy board exam tips and guide.
The examination is composed of 600 items in a multiple choice format. The test is given in 2 days and consists of 6 subjects. To pass the exam, the examinee should get not lower than 75% and no 50% ratings in two subjects.

Pharmacy Board Exam Coverage of the examination
The licensure exam for pharmacist involves 6 modules. Each module is consists of 100 questions in different subjects. The terms of difficulty also varies in every module and the corresponding percentage.
The modules include the following for Pharmacy Board Exam:
- Module 1: Pharmaceutical Chemistry – 20%
- Qualitative Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Organic Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry
- Inorganic Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry
In this module, the examinee must master the Periodic Table of Elements and its medicinal uses. You should also familiarize the qualitative and quantitative analysis of extrinsic and intrinsic properties of the elements. Take time memorizing the scientists, different laws, and theories.
- Module 2: Pharmcognosy – 15%
- Biochemistry
- Plant chemistry
Focus your study about carbohydrates, resins, lipids, heteroglycans, homoglycan, alkaloids, and other test methods. Review about ATP’s, enzymes, amino acids, and different tests.
- Module 3: Practice of Pharmacy – 5%
- Pharmaceutical calculations
- Clinical and hospital pharmacy
- Compounding and dispensing pharmacy
You must review about laboratory tests, their normal values and ranges. Also, you need to memorize the brand and generic names of drugs, medication errors, and erroneous prescriptions.
- Module 4: Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics – 15%
- Incompatibilities and Adverse Drug Reactions
- Toxicology
In this module, you should take time reviewing the Autonomic Nervous System, nicotinic, muscarinic, and alpha/beta. You need also to study the different classifications of drugs, diuretics, cardiovascular drugs, and the likes.
- Module 5: Pharmaceutics – 5%
- Physical Pharmacy
- Manufacturing Pharmacy
- Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms
- Jurisprudence and Ethics
You should study about the various dosage forms, the different machines and processes. Review about pharmacy laws, basic laws and Special Law on Counterfeit Drugs.
- Module 6: Quality Control/Quality Assurance – 15%
- Qualitative Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Microbiology and Public Health
- Drug Testing with Instrumentation
Familiarization of the different tests, machines, and apparatus is important in this module. You should also memorize everything about fungi, bacteria, virus, and helminths.
