Woman Jailed When Stealing Emirati Aunt’s Passport and use for Travel

A 23-year-old woman has been sentenced to three months in jail for stealing her Emirati aunt’s passport and using the document to travel to Turkey.

The woman, who does not have identity papers, used the stolen passport to travel from Dubai to Turkey in May. She stayed there on holiday for two weeks with her friends, authorities learned.

She was stopped at the Dubai immigration desk on her return to Dubai after her aunt alerted authorities about her missing passport.

“I went to the police and reported to them that I had lost my passport. Upon checking the immigration e-records, they notified me that someone who flew out to Turkey had used my passport,” the aunt testified.

The niece was taken into custody and later tried in court where she was convicted of theft and falsification of documents.
